In celebration of the 2017 International Women’s Day, we’d like to highlight some of the women on the WAORRA committee.
Name?
Danielle Joyce
When/how did you get involved in motorsport?
Racing is in my blood, started going to off road races in 1987, but I can remember sitting at our old house with a friend’s drag car helping him and dad wash it. After many hard years of pleading, begging and playing pit crew and official, I finally got in the navi seat then drivers seat.
How are you currently involved in motorsport?
Driver of car 21 and 2017 Vice President.
What do you like most about motorsport?
Aside from the friends and off road family I have, I love the fact no two laps are the same, every lap is different and challenging. Having the fastest car is always good (not that I know lol) but consistency is the key. In some races slow and steady is the key to finishing.
What was your first street car?
KE 55 Corolla.
What do you think are the pros/cons about being a woman in motorsport?
Pros – People under estimate you, we can multitask and get shit done.
Cons – You sometimes to pay more for some items of race gear due to girly parts 😀 Race suits, underwear and seats are not designed for women.
